This scheme was undertaken to repair damaged bridge joints at 3 locations on the M8 motorway and resurfacing of a junction off the M7 motorway
Key Elements
- Phasing of the works to maintain motorway traffic at all times during construction and managing the works at the junctions to minimise traffic disruption
- Removal of the existing motorway surface and removal of the existing bridge run on slab to remove the failed material underneath, subsequently carrying out plate bearing tests to confirm existing subgrade met the strength requirements
- Repair of bridge waterproofing where necessary
- Reinstatement of the trench with subbase and bituminous materials, including a tensar asphalt reinforcement layer
- Reinstatement of wearing course in accordance with TII specification and reapplication of road studs and markings
- Works at the junction included removal of all bituminous layers as well as the subbase layer
- Replacement of all pavement layers and the inclusion of a tensar reinforcement layer
- Reinstatement of all roadmarkings at the junction
