This footbridge structure is the only stressed ribbon bridge in Ireland and one of only a handful in the world.
Key Elements
- Winner of both a Construction Excellence Award and an Irish Concrete Society Award
- Constructed over the N11 dual carriageway with a single span of 48m in length and a 300mm thick deck
- Constructed with both pedestrian ramps and stairs
- Bridge constructed while the carriageway was live, with interuption only when the 6 bearing cables were brought from one abutement to another
- Constructed by lifting the precast troughed deck onto the bearing cables and then winching them into the correct position
- Post-tensioning of the units was carried out once all units were in the correct position and the concrete deck poured.
